The Hoatzin is a tropical rainforest bird living in the Orinoco Basins in South America. It has several adaptations that aid it in surviving in its environment, such as its behavioral adaptations of building high nests and living close to water, physical adaptations such as its camouflage, and physiological adaptations, such as its ability to digest leaves in its stomach.
The Orinoco Basins are where the Orinoco river flows through to the Atlantic Ocean, and they are under threat of deforestation and water contamination. In the future, the rainforest will be much smaller than it is now, as well as more dry, leading to the Hoatzin adapting by gaining longer wings and claws to fly farther and climb trees, a bigger beak and eyes to eat animals/tougher foods and see better in the dark, as well as some new camouflage to blend in with the dry ecosystem.
