Nowadays, the Western Gorilla lives in the African equatorial tropical rainforest with many trees, plants, and shade. It eats laves, fruit, and varieties of vegetation, and moves through the rainforest using its short arms and legs. In the future, climate change might make some rainfall forests hotter and turn parts of them into savannas with few trees. Due to this change, gorillas may adapt over thousands of years. They may develop thinner and darker fur to stay cool and blend with the new environment. Gorillas might also have longer legs and hands for stronger endurance so they can travel farther to find food. Their teeth and digestive systems may adapt to eat tougher plants. These changes would help gorillas survive in warmer habitat with fewer trees and less food sources.
