Currently, the Jaguar lives in rainforests and wetlands but over thousands of years, the climate has gotten much hotter, and the rainforests have turned into dry, open savannas. Because there are no more trees to hide in, the jaguar had to change to survive. Instead of being a stocky cat that sneaks up on prey in the shadows, the "Savanna Stalker" is now leaner with longer legs, built for running fast across open grass. Its fur has changed from dark spots to a lighter, sandy color to help it blend into the dry plants. Also, its ears are much bigger now, which helps its body stay cool in the hot sun. These big changes show how the jaguar adapted to its new, sunny home. It is no longer a jungle cat, but a hunter that learned to survive in a tough, changing environment.
