Electric Eel

Climate change will likely take a toll on the world's rainforests in the future, with the Amazon being one of the most affected. This is very unfortunate as the Amazon rainforest is home to the majority of the electric eel population. Luckily, electrics eels are very adaptive creatures and have highly specialized organs that generate up to 860 volts of electricity -- using their main, Hunter's, and Sach's electrical organs. They can stun prey, defend themselves, and even navigate with electrolocation which helps them find food through dark and/or muddy water. Electric eels are obligate air breathers, meaning they have the ability to survive in low oxygen water, where many other fish cannot. Their highly vascularized mouth allows them to gulp air by taking in oxygen directly. Having long, flexible, and sensitive bodies that allow them to move easily through narrow spaces detect and get away from danger.
