Some adaptations of a sloth could be having an enhanced, specialized camouflage where their fur becomes a deeper green from the increase of algae growth. Since sloths are excellent swimmers, their lung capacity may increase into at least a 40-minute breath-hold underwater, which enhances their ability to drop their heart rate by 90% when submerged allowing them to escape predators by hiding underwater for longer periods. Their already slow metabolism may evolve to be even more efficient at extracting energy, probably with larger stomachs or more specific symbiotic gut bacteria. Their curved, claw-like, hook-shaped limbs may become even more specialized for gripping, reducing the need to walk on the ground.
