Poison dart frogs are famous for their distinctly vivid colors, which warn predators of their toxicity. With climate change on the rise, our beautiful, verdant rainforests face danger. These forests could dry up and turn into an environment similar to a savanna. Since savannas are much drier and less forested compared to rainforests, poison dart frogs’ bright colors will be a disadvantage when surviving. To make up for this, these frogs could evolve duller, more natural colors like brown or green to blend in with the dry grass and dirt. These frogs would likely develop thicker skin as well, and could even adapt a similar trait of the giant waxy tree frog to prevent themselves from drying up in the hot sun. As the environment changes, the frogs that develop these traits to combat harsh conditions will survive more easily, leading to a new species of poisonous frogs.
