In present day, the Toco Toucan lives in the dense Brasilian Amazon Rainforest. Its dark feathers camouflage to the shady canopies, its light beak helps it forage for fruits and bugs, and its short wings help it glide between trees when it isn’t hopping on its clawed feet. An animal perfectly suited for its habitat. However, due to climate change and deforestation, the rainforest has the potential to turn into a dry savanna. In the future, as this habitat becomes hotter and drier, the toucan will have to evolve to better suit its environment. Their feathers will turn shades of brown, its beak become smaller and more rigid to collect seeds instead of fruit, and grown longer legs and wings for extended mobility in a more barren landscape. Because of habitat and climate change, the Toco Toucan will have to evolve to be a better suited bird for the savanna.
