Dart Frog to Earth Frog

My animal, the poison dart frog, has colors to warn predators that they are dangerous. It has adhesive toe pads, and each foot has 3-4 toes that are unwebbed with wide, flattened tips and suction cups. These pads allow the frogs to climb and cling to leaves and trees in their humid, slippery environment. Poison dart frogs have a long, sticky, projectile tongue to capture small, fast-moving insects. Rainforests face critical transformation due to climate change with projections suggesting a transformation from dense, moist ecosystems into drier, savanna-like landscapes. Increased temperatures, severe “hot droughts,” and intensified fires could cause widespread tree death, pushing up to 47% of the Amazon rainforest a tipping point of collapse by 2050. Poison dart frogs are expected to adapt through physiological and behavioral changes, including developing thicker skin to retain moisture in drier habitats, increased temperature tolerance, and camouflage shifts to blend into deforested environments.
