The paca is a rodent that lives in the rainforest. They are native to Central and South America. They are very shy and solitary animals. Pacas live in burrows and they always make them near water. If they are threatened, they swim away. Pacas eat fallen fruits, leaves, roots, stems, seeds, etc. They do not eat any meat, however, they are susceptible to losing their food source due to deforestation.
Deforestation is the clearing of trees and plants for industrial/ commercial use. Because of this, in the future, I predict that they will lose their habitat and sources of food. They will adapt to live in the water. Pacas are already good swimmers and use rivers to flee predators. However, I think they would eventually grow a tail to help their movement. Because of the change in surroundings for them, they would end up with sharp, narrow teeth.
