The Red-Eyed Tree Frog

This drawing illustrates a red-eyed tree frog, known for its captivating red eyes, bright green body, and orange cup-like footpads, which help it cling to the undersides of leaves. Due to challenges such as climate change and deforestation, these frogs are losing their habitat. In a few decades, these frogs will cease to exist in the lush tropical environment, and the rainforests will decay into a dry savannah biome. Compared to the vegetation that surrounds rainforests, savannahs lack frondescence: the grass is yellowish-brown, and there are few trees. The second drawing shows how red-eyed tree frogs camouflage themselves; instead of green, they have brown scales that blend into their surroundings, helping them defend against predators. Contrary to their name, they hide in caves for protection because of the lack of trees, and the dark environments cause the red-eyed tree frogs to dilate their eyes, making them appear larger.
