The Amazon Weasel resides in the Amazon Basin, near river banks and in forests. But due to climate change, rivers will dry up. This means the webbing on their feet used for swimming won’t be present. As the Amazon gets hotter, they’d either migrate to colder weather, like the nearby Andes Mountains, or climb trees to avoid predators due to the depleting undergrowth that’s dried up. As they start climbing trees, the Amazon Weasel could develop a thumb for enhanced grip. To avoid day dangers like human activity and heat, this weasel may have greener eyes to take in more light at night, as well as opening up blind eyes sooner as a baby. Their coats will also get lighter for better camouflage and sun reflection. To have a more flexible diet, their teeth could adapt as an omnivore’s to have more nutrients amid the dry weather.
