The Okapi

The okapi is an amazing animal that can be found in the tropical rainforests of the DRC (Democratic Republic of Congo). Currently, the okapi has large ears, an insanely long tongue (up to 14 inches!), a dark/brown coat, and black and white stripes. In the future, I speculate the okapi could change in many ways. Due to degradation, the okapi’s habitat could become a savannah. This could cause the okapi to develop a shorter neck, a smaller size, less prominent stripes, and a lighter colored coat. These changes would happen due to the new environment not having the foods they’re used to consuming. The okapi could be forced to adapt to eating other things like grass which is why they will no longer need their long neck. Unfortunately, if the okapi doesn't adapt fast enough, it will most likely become extinct as it is already on the brink of extinction.
