Imagine a rainforest, but it's the worst-case scenario: Burned trees, poisoned waters, and a forest floor covered in ash. It may be hard to imagine life living here, but there is one species that thrives.
The Hammertail Crocodile evolved from the modern-day crocodile to adapt to the grim environment. It's named after its flat, hammer-like tail that it uses to splash water on itself, so it doesn't need to live in the water.
Just like crocodiles, it's an ambush predator, and both its tail and its strong hind legs are used to leap onto prey. It's also smaller and has a darker scale color to blend into its surroundings.
Even when the rainforest has burned down, a delicate ecosystem still remains. Including the Hammertail Crocodile.
