A squirrel is a small, quick-moving rodent that belongs to the animal family Sciuridae. Squirrels are known for their bushy tails, sharp claws, and energetic behavior. They usually have gray, brown, red, or black fur, which helps them blend into their surroundings. Their long tails help them balance when climbing trees and also keep them warm in cold weather. Squirrels are commonly found in forests, parks, and neighborhoods. They build nests called dreys in trees using leaves, twigs, and grass. One of the most common species in North America is the Eastern Gray Squirrel. Squirrels mostly eat nuts, seeds, fruits, and berries, but they may also eat mushrooms and insects. They are famous for collecting and hiding food in many places to save for later. These animals are very active during the day and are excellent climbers and jumpers, making them fascinating to watch in nature.
