The current habitat of the Hoatzin is tropical wetlands and swampy forests in the Amazon. I think its future habitat will become the savanna. Due to greenhouse gases released into the atmosphere by humans, more heat becomes trapped near Earth, causing temperatures to rise and forests to dry into grasslands. Burning fossil fuels increases the heat reflected back toward the planet, making droughts more common. The hoatzin will develop lighter brown feathers to blend into dry grass and shrubs for camouflage. Its claws will become stronger so it can climb trees and sharper to help catch small prey. It will also develop a more acidic digestive system to break down tougher plants and meat found in the savanna. During extreme droughts, the hoatzin will rest in a tree burrow during the hottest parts of the day to conserve energy. The scientific name of this evolved hoatzin would be Opisthocomus aridus.
