The arrau turtle is currently facing struggles with sex determination of their eggs because of climate change. Between 84 and 86 degrees is the ideal temperature to produce a mix of males and females, and because of climate change the current nesting months are becoming too hot and producing an increasingly overwhelming amount of females. My behavioral adaptation is to shift the mating and nesting seasons back to April through early June. These months are much closer to the ideal temperatures and are in the dry season and would decrease the risk of nests flooding and harming the eggs. Pushing back the nesting season would allow a better mix of males and females and allow the turtles to hatch in a calmer environment.
