The Scarlet Macaw lives in the tropical rainforests of Central and South America. It has bright red, yellow, and blue feathers, strong wings, and a large curved beak that helps it crack nuts and seeds. It also has strong feet to grip branches high in the canopy, where it stays safe from many ground predators. However, if deforestation and climate change continue, parts of the rainforest could become hotter and drier, possibly turning into a more open, desert-like habitat. If that happens, their bright feathers may become duller and more brown to blend into the dry environment. Their wings may become longer and stronger to travel farther for food. Their beaks may develop more blood vessels to release heat in higher temperatures. These traits would be selected because macaws with these adaptations would survive longer and reproduce more.
