The blue poison dart frog, also known as the Dendrobates tinctorius azureus, lives on small, isolated tropical rainforest islands found in southern Suriname and northern Brazil. These islands are surrounded by dry, prairie-like savannas that reach elevations of 430 m. Specifically, they live near small streams and hide among mossy rocks. In their current environment, they have structurally adapted to have a long, sticky tongue to catch predators. They also wrestle for territory, hunt during the day, and are as small as a paper clip. In the future, the blue poison dart frog will become the orange poison dart frog, and its scientific name will be the Aurantifrog terribilis. It’ll live on small, isolated savanna islands. Their color change will help them blend in with the tall grass of the savanna. They will hunt during the night due to increased predators, and will not eat much due to their size.
