My current creature is a Toucan, commonly found in the rainforest. The toucan has colorful feathers to attract a mate and to blend into its lush environment. He is not great at flying so he has short legs and long claws to perch on trees. His long beak helps him get deep into tree holes to find food. His large beak helps him self regulate his temperature by releasing or absorbing heat. My future creature, called a Sandcan, has earthy colors to blend in with his drier desert surroundings. His thin body uses up less water and his larger eyes help him focus better at night in order to find food. Longer legs keep this bird further from the hot ground during the day. His scaly legs prevent burns and protect his feet from sharp rocks and hot sand while his beak can reach deep into cacti.
