A capybara’s present habitat is dense, warm, rainforests, and they’re native to South America where there are a lot of rainforests. The predicted future habitat for Capybaras is in a savanna. Their habitat may change due to climate change accelerating fast. The savanna is much different than a rainforest, the savanna is much drier, and there is a lot less water there. Since a savanna has trees, the predicted living space for capybaras is in a tree called a Jackalberry tree. Because of the very different environment, capybaras need to develop adaptations in order to survive in this new environment. A few examples of new adaptations that can help them survive is, becoming as small as present newborn capybaras, so it will be harder for predators to detect them. Becoming green colored to blend in with the trees, so again, it will be hard for predators to detect the capybaras.
