The Javan Leopard is a critically endangered leopard, native solely to the Javan rainforests. In the future, these rainforests may turn into savanna, causing lack of water, dryer environment, and less canopy cover. This would happen because of climate change and Earth’s warming temperatures. The Javan Leopard will have to adapt to its new environment, and become the Javan Camel Leopard. This new leopard will have lighter spots, a hump on its back for storing water, long retractable claws for digging, and a new way of hunting. The leopard which used to hide its prey in trees, will now store prey in the ground due to reduced canopy cover. The hump on its back will store water, helping with the dryer environment and lack of water. With these new adaptations, the Javan leopard will adapt to a savanna environment, and be saved from extinction.
