Jaguars (Panthera onca) are big cats that currently live in the rainforest. They have a stocky build, medium sized tail, and rosettes to help with camouflage. They are usually solitary, and can swim in the water to hunt fish. However, in the future it is predicted that, due to climate change, most rainforests will have a major change of climate and become savannas. Some Jaguars already live in savannas, and are mostly comfortable there, but there are adaptations that would optimize the jaguars presence in savannas. A jaguar in the future would be so different it would need a different classification. This jaguar will be called the Jaundice Jaguar (Panthera iketerós). The fur would be lighter and thinner, to help with camouflage and heat regulation. These “Jaundice Jaguars” would also have a less stocky build with longer legs and tail. Dark spots around the eye will also help reduce glare.
