Sloths are slow animals that live high in the trees of the rainforest. They have long claws to help them hang from branches and they have brown/ greenish fur, which is covered with algae, allowing them to blend in with the leaves. Moving slowly keeps them safe from predators like jaguars and eagles. These traits help the sloth stay alive in today’s rainforest, where it is warm and full of trees. However, climate change is making the rainforest hotter and drier. Trees may die, and finding food could become harder. In the future sloths might need new traits to survive. They could develop lighter fur to stay cool or learn to move faster to find new trees or food. Sloths might even spend more time on the ground if there are fewer tall trees. These changes could help them adapt to the rainforest as time goes on.
